From Light-Opening Section by Alan Fleming Baird

This piece was the result of a conversation I had with the composer Julian Anderson about the Mantovanni Orchestra. There was a famous style of arrangement that the orchestra would use of "cascading" a melody through the strings. I wanted to use this technique in a very different way and with a different harmonic language. The sound clip above is of a section which relies heavily on Cannonic material separated by a tone. The title of the piece comes from using the techniques drawn from light music.
